It was more than two years ago. It was one of those nights that I was vividly dreaming about styling my jewelry while looking through one beautifully curated feed after another on instagram. (I have a lot of those nights, if I’m being totally honest.) When I stumbled upon Aissa’s account (@Aislerchic), I instantly knew I wanted to work with her. It was clear to me that she knows how to wear colors, patterns and textures in ways that I just don’t think about. I followed her and I consistently oo-ed and aahh-ed (and liked!) her photos until I worked up the courage to ask her to collaborate.

I still remember the day I opened her email response and saw that she had said yes. I was new to the marketing-yourself-online world, I was going through a lot personally and my faith in just about everything was nonexistent. I smile just thinking about how our first collaboration made me feel like making jewelry was the right thing to be doing at the time, when everything else I was doing felt so wrong.

We just recently pulled off our second photoshoot together and I couldn’t be more excited to share our photos with you. Her energy, her style and her attention to detail made it all effortless, despite the distance. She handled everything, including finding a photographer (if you haven’t seen Meghan Medlen’s work then you’re missing out), and she frequently kept me in the loop about the timeline. She’s always open to new ideas, takes creative direction really well and successfully translated my inspiration into new, one of kind lifestyle content. Aissa and Meghan’s style is truly original, and you can see the love they have for their work in each photo. I receive so many lovely compliments every time I post them.

My heart is still so full. I hope you enjoy this Lookbook as much as we enjoyed collaborating.

Celebrate Warm Layers

Short on time? Short on motivation? Throw a little self-care into your style choices.

When was the last time you took a moment for yourself? When you’re constantly on the go for your kids or your business or your day job, it’s easy to be so wrapped up in life, you lose sight of your joy. People rely on you, dreams need to be nourished, bills need to be paid. Your needs just aren’t a priority right now. I get it, babe, I really do.

Here’s the thing, though. The only way you can provide for your kids or your dreams or your job is if you make sure to provide for yourself first. You can’t give something you don’t have. And the only one who can take care of you the way you need to be taken care of while you’re constantly on the go is YOU.

Tap into some warm layers so you can feel (and share) joy more freely. Layer a puffy vest over your plaid shirt. Throw a cardigan over your favorite t-shirt. Wear a big blanket scarf with just about everything. Better yet, wear two big blanket scarves with just about everything.

Putting yourself first when making style choices is an easy yet empowering form of self-care. You can make any outfit YOURS simply by choosing things you want to wear because you want to wear them. When you put yourself first in this way, it’s fulfilling and authentic and a heck of a lot more joyful to take care of all the things.

Embrace Comfort

Comfy is stylish, when the real you is accentuated.

Aaah, pants. They’re the last thing we put on in the morning as we’re running out the door and the first thing to come off when we make it back home for dinner; well…second to the bra maybe.

From skinny jeans that give you a bubble butt to spanx that make wearing those high-waisted beauties possible, the pants we wear seem to require sucking something in or tucking something away—like we’re transforming ourselves just to fit into some mainstream standard.  Sounds familiar, right?

Clothes are meant to accentuate what you already have—not change it. If we’re constantly reshaping who we are so we can be like everyone else, how will we ever transform into the truest version of ourselves? How will we ever grow and evolve and just be us?

I vote for wearing pants that let us move, like soft capris. Or boyfriend jeans that let us breathe. Or even pants that actually let us eat. Hello, favorite pair of sweatpants.  Comfy pants give you space and when you have more space, you have more room to grow, literally and figuratively.
